When a dream is embedded in a person's heart and is carried by an altruistic force, it becomes a reality. The hockey in Saint-Ambroise in 70 was practiced outside! Due to the temperature, the available days were rather rare ... and despite the lack of equipment, hockey was very popular in Saint-Ambroise. Our arena was built in 1979 with the participation of $63,000 from the community. Since the beginning, we have several organizations and leagues that use our arena, including the Interregional Minor Hockey Tournament, the largest in the region and the Saint-Ambroise Family Tournament, a very important tournament where 40 family teams meet. This tournament is the only one of its kind in Canada (www.tournoifamilial.com). Our arena is a supra-local facility serving the clientele of the surrounding municipalities of Bégin, Saint-Charles-de-Bourget, Saint-David-de-Falardeau, Saint-Honoré and the city of Saguenay - Shipshaw sector.
The money will be used to perform work that is necessary for the comfort of our users and visitors. Our arena greatly needs to renovate the washrooms, the podiums and the players' rooms. The washrooms must be remodeled completely, they date from the opening of the arena nearly 40 years ago. The stands are original, so it would be very important to change them so that our visitors are more comfortable. As regards changing rooms, benches and shelves will have to be changed in their entirety as well as the toilets and the ceiling of the showers. Proceeding with these renovations would meet a need of our community, many people talk about the condition of our washrooms and our platforms. We believe that we will increase our ridership and, by the same token, we will maintain the passion of our citizens for hockey.
The population of Saint-Ambroise is proud to submit the application for the Marcel-Claveau Arena and believes it could be the next Kraft Hockeyville. This nomination could help improve this important collective infrastructure and continue to promote sportsmanship and hockey to its community and surrounding communities. Again, Saint-Ambroise wants to prove that the projects can be realized by uniting. The Marcel-Claveau Arena is at the center of collective activities. Each year, it hosts nearly 650 hockey and figure skaters every week. Several families choose to settle in or stay in Saint-Ambroise because we offer activities for everyone and the arena is an important reason. We are proud of our Arena and we wish to preserve it for future generations and to ensure a quality of life for our community and those around us.
